Song Lyrics

Where did I go?

Man oh man am I inconsistent or what??
No, but seriously…I do find it a struggle to post on here…which is why I haven’t in a while. I truly am not a writer nor do I know how to truly get this thing going…But in the mean time…Check out a quick doodl-eee-doo I made.

Any Crystal Fighters fans out there?
Well if you haven’t heard of them check ’em out! This is a lyric from their song You & I.

I hope everyone is having an extraordinary holiday season! It’s the best time of the year.

My very delayed September Lunar Lettery.
I don’t believe this one needs much of an explanation…But just in case…I created the S letter form out of colorful leaves, inspired by my Adirondack surroundings.  I then scanned it in and colored in Illustrator.

I hope you enjoy!

October’s Lunar Letter

So here we are a month later! All Hallows Eve!!
This is my first successful Lunar Letter, however I will be posting  September’s very delayed Lunar Letter shortly.

October is such an exciting month. It has that eagerness of early autumn reaching for the holiday season to begin. The weather tends to get a bit dreary but we have Halloween to look forward to and then all the glory days afterwards.

October’s Lunar Letter Design

So I keep wondering if this is a bit of a stretch…but the O is supposed to be created with the arch of the Cat’s back, up along the tail and down to the head to make a full circle. If it is too much of a stretch how about that moon?? That is technically an O is it not?I am having so much fun doing this light hearted design project! I am trying out new techniques in illustrator and photoshop and learning quiet a bit! I also am constantly sketching. I have plenty of more months to go and plenty of sketches already started.

So what are peoples thoughts on my design? I absolutely love this adorable little cat!

Happy Halloween everyone! I hope everybody had a spooktacular day and even more frightening evening!

P.s. I am being a Tribal Lion for Halloween, but the party isn’t until saturday so photos will be posted this weekend!

So, I Quit My Job…

You did what?!?!

Yes, I know, I’m officially Looney…or LUNIE…LUNAR…get it?!?!

Okay, so the questions are, for what reason and why did I think I could?

Well I was unhappy where I was, a little frustrated/creatively stifled and needed a change. I have always been a creative person and know that I can do better than where I was. Success to me is being happy and I can’t be happy unless I am being a productive citizen and creating work I am truly proud of. Therefore, I am now freelancing and working a part time job. This was a very scary decision but necessary. I got the courage after watching this video.  If you have time checkout his other videos, they are inspiring, motivating and just fuckin awesome!

I love James Victore, I think that his outlook on life and how design fits into it is dead on. Life is too short to waste time doing things that you don’t absolutely love or doesn’t  bring you happiness.

Here is a quick diddy I made based off a quote from his website.

“We want to work with people and companies who believe that the status quo is not enough, that good work matters and that design can be a tool to affect opinions and culture.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself!
(however, I removed companies from the quote…)

So this is why I have been MIA, the last month has been a whirlwind but I am now free to post regularly and hope to do just that! So stay tuned….

September’s Lunar Letter

So it has been a looong week. Clearly I have been lacking in the post department…

Here is a preview of what this months Lunar Letter looks like. I will be posting the final piece later this weekend or Monday. Along with some process shots.

I would love to learn how to make a process video so I will be looking into that. Anyone have any suggestions/tips?

Well happy weekend everyone 🙂

Happy Autumn!

A quick sketch to digital. This didn’t even make it to illustrator so it is rather rough. However I think it captures autumn pretty well. Cheers to all the leaf peepin’, cider drinkin’, apple pickin’ days ahead!

Leave some comments if you have any critiques!!

Happy Autumn!

Farm Aid 2013

Here is the Farm Aid website and I guess you can actually watch it live! Artists like Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young, Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds, AMOS LEE!! and many more.

I will be taking lots of photos so stay tuned 🙂

Hope everyone’s Saturday is just as fanfriggentastic as mine!

Cats & Kittens

photoSo I believe, in my first post, “I gave a fair warning” …

I have always loved anything and everything cute and cuddly. I grew up in a family that loves animals. We often had several cats and dogs, I even nursed a baby squirrel back to health. His name was Jacamo.

To me animals are part of existing, you see them everyday almost everywhere you go. Not all of them are cute and cuddly but they belong here just as we do. Also, theu obviously serve an important role in the balance of our world and I think its vital that people recognize that and respect it.

What I truly love about animals is their ability to heal, comfort, and soothe a human soul. This mainly applies to our household friends but does extend beyond. To me this is why I love cats and dogs. I believe they are an important part of any family. (messes and alll!)

I remember when I was younger I had a cat named Hopi (after the Native American tribe) and she was the most intelligent cat I’ve ever known. She knew to walk up and down our piano when she wanted to go out, top-notch hunter, she was a pro at creating messes/ breaking things (very intentionally I might add), yet she also knew how to comfort you. Anytime I ever cried and she was in ear shot she would come and snuggle until I felt better. This wasn’t just with me, but with my other sisters too. And if you tried faking it…she knew!

I have had many other pets who bring me happiness including my two kitties Femi and Philly. I adopted them pretty young and about a week apart. They are now 3 years old. I love them to death and rely on them to keep me company, entertain me, alert me when mice are around…and raise my spirits when I am down. If one isn’t there the other is and I know that they appreciate the love I give in return. The love that they have for each other is also indescribably beautiful. They truly are just the cutest little behbehs ever!

At the top of this post is a sketch I did recently…I often get bored at work (even though I have 5 bajillion things to do) luckily I’m a pretty speedy worker at times. I do like to multitask while talking on the phone so I have many sketches from work…some not so good, some not finished…but this one seemed to be pretty solid. I will be turning this into an actual finished piece! Wahoo. I am not sure about some parts of it…but I guess that is part of the exploration!

I would love to actually get this printed and then actually sew in the ampersand. Thoughts?

Ok ciao!

Weekend Recap

Weekend Recap

And it is Thursday…

Holy heck where did this week go? I swear the days just fly by faster and faster every year. So, I hope from here on out to be posting my Weekend Recaps by Monday or Tuesday at the latest!

I will try to keep this short and mainly just show some photos from the weekend. I need to start actually bringing my camera with me…rather then my trusty iPhone which is ready to kick the bucket…

I had a very enjoyable 3 day weekend! Yes that is correct 3 days! wahoo. It was much needed.

Saturday was extra lovely, some morning Vinyasa Flow along with a wonderful trip to the farmers market. I am part of a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) with a local farm and I absolutely love it. I enjoyed one of the most delicious empanadas and then also treated my self to a waffle on a stick?!?! Also delicious…

Yoga Mandali

Sunday I awoke bright and early in a rather unfortunate state. I stayed out way too late on Saturday night. This is something I believe I have grown out of, but hey, we can’t always be perfect! Oh well, I still got up and went to The Hyde Museum to see a Georgia O’Keeffe exhibit with my mom. Georgia O’Keeffe is one of my favorite artists so I was very excited to say the least.

I finished off my Sunday with some quality family time and some sketching! I swear I have piles upon piles of sketches and ideas that never seem to make it to the next phase…here is one that I hope to complete sometime soon…I have been doing a lot of hand lettering since I have never attempted (always too intimidated by it) but what do you think?oversized_sketchAs for my lovely Monday off…I had one of my best friends visit who I hadn’t seen in a year! So sad…we do talk almost every day though, it helps my commute go by faster. We had a most delicious meal at a Mexican restaurant in my town. Evidence below!

So that’s a wrap!

I would love to get some comments….What was your favorite thing you did this weekend?

About Me

A designers creative exploration…procrastination?

Oh boy, my first blog post.

Saratoga Springs

Downtown and the moon

As a graphic designer I feel its pretty normal to have a blog, but for me personally, not so much. You see, I am naturally an introvert/extrovert, one of those people who can’t be pinned down. At times I can be very outgoing, other times I am super shy and don’t even know how to strike up a conversation. Inner turmoil at it’s finest!

But here it goes, I am facing this fear and diving into the world of creative bloggers. There are so many out there that I am in awe of and I feel that the best way to evolve into a better designer and maybe even a better writer (yeah right)…is to just put it all out there. Also, I need a more productive form of procrastination.

The Lunar Lettery, what is it??

The Lunar Lettery is a place where my ideas, creations and interests can grow. (And hopefully yours too!) As a rule of thumb I will be posting an illustrated letter at the end of every month. Hence the Lunar Lettery name. I will also share sketches, projects, pictures, and things I stumble across on the interwebs.

My Goals.

  1. Explore and develop my creative self
  2. Interact with like-minded people
  3. Be inspired
  4. To not blog anonymously (we shall see)

A fair warning…

I live on the internet (hello!! graphic designer here), so eventually I may be blogging a lot. I hope you will stick around to see where this goes. However, if you hate made up words, typos (sorry), or don’t thoroughly enjoy the cuteness of the world this may not be the place for you. I am just going to lay that out there.

Well I would say this is a start. I am not sure how often I will post to start with, but stay tuned…

Ciao for now!

oh and p.s. This first post was created on Friday the 13th, a good thing or a bad thing…
